Participants should enhance their appreciation of the normal anatomy of the central elements subserving ataxias, as well as the peripheral sensory input upon which the system depends. Participants should be able to enhance their understanding of the genetic, infectious, inflammatory, metabolic, and toxic influences. This review should enhance for participants their approach to localization and diagnosis of causes of ataxia on the basis of historical details and examination findings. Participants should develop increased appreciation of the elegance of normal cerebellar function, in tandem with the extrapyramidal system and peripheral sensory systems.
