Participants should be able to: identify and discuss common areas of error for neurologists, including the cognitive and systems processes that pose a higher risk of error, and explore tips for reducing common diagnostic errors; apply the techniques for reducing common diagnostic errors; understand and explore the issues of what to disclose, to whom, when, and how in the immediate aftermath of an error; identify the basics of managing litigation, logistically and psychologically; and explore the various possibilities for using errors and litigation as learning moments to change practice and practice environments.
