AAN Foundation Awards $130,000 Fellowship in Alzheimer鈥檚 Research to UCSF Researcher

TORONTO -

and the Alzheimer鈥檚 Association awarded the AAN Foundation Robert Katzman, MD, Clinical Research Training Fellowship in Alzheimer鈥檚 Research to Winston Chiong, MD, PhD. Chiong, a neurology resident at the University of California San Francisco in CA, was awarded the fellowship for his research titled 鈥淐ognitive Components of Vulnerability to Fraud in Aging and Mild Cognitive Impairment.鈥� The two-year award will consist of an annual salary of $55,000, plus a $10,000 per year in educational expenses. The award recognizes the importance of clinical research in Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and encourages young investigators in clinical studies. The fellowship will be formally presented during the 好色先生鈥檚 62nd Annual Meeting in Toronto, Wednesday, April 14, 2010. Clinical research is the fundamental transition stage between discovery and treatment. Clinical research provides the scientific basis for all forms of care, addresses patient and caregiver needs, and is the backbone for drug development and cost-effectiveness studies needed to improve lives. Fellowships provide recipients with up to three years of 鈥減rotected time鈥� with salary which allows them to continue important research projects in their chosen interests. There are currently an estimated 18 million people worldwide with Alzheimer鈥檚 disease. This figure is projected to nearly double by 2025. The 62nd Annual Meeting of the AAN takes place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
