ST. PAUL, Minn. -
Thirty-one neurologists from around the world have been selected to attend the award-winning Donald M. Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum, January 13-16, 2011, in San Diego, California. The Donald M. Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum is an advocacy leadership skills development program designed to train those selected to be effective advocates for their profession and neurology patients at the local, state and national levels. 鈥淭he neurologists selected to participate in this year鈥檚 Donald M. Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum are some of the best and brightest doctors in the world representing countries such as the United States, Canada, Slovenia, Ethiopia and Nigeria,鈥 said Daniel C. Potts, MD, FAAN, Palatucci graduate and Master of Ceremonies for this year鈥檚 event. 鈥淭his exemplary program will teach them how to make a difference in their local, state and national governments, hone their communications skills and develop an advocacy action plan based on health care challenges where they live and practice.鈥 This year鈥檚 trainees will be joined by 10 advisors, all of whom were selected from previous Forums based on their advocacy leadership experience to receive advanced mentorship training and work with the new 2011 trainees. Since 2003, 240 members of the AAN from 39 US states and 14 countries have graduated from the Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum. Many of these graduates have gone on to implement their action plans and provide solutions to health care challenges in their area. The Forum was named in memory of former AAN Board of Directors member Donald M. Palatucci, MD, and honors his spirited efforts as an advocate for his patients and profession.
