Gregory E. Cooper, MD, PhD, MBA, FAAN, FAAPL

Gregory E. Cooper, MD, PhD, MBA, FAAN, FAAPLGregory E. Cooper, MD, PhD, MBA, FAAN, FAAPL, is Chief of Adult Neurology and Director of the Memory Center at the Norton Neuroscience Institute (NNI) in Louisville, KY. He earned his medical degree and doctorate at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, followed by internship and residency in Neurology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Cognitive Neuroscience under the direction of Dr. Antonio Damasio, also at the University of Iowa. He later earned his MBA at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2021.

He has held a number of clinical positions, including directing the Memory Disorders Clinic at Iowa briefly before returning to Lexington to join Dr. William Markesbery at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky and later the Baptist Neurology Center, where he created and led the Baptist Health Memory Care Program. Since 2021 he has practiced at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, where in addition to overseeing the growth and development of the neurology program, he has helped create and direct the NNI Memory Center.

In addition to clinical practice, Cooper has served as principal investigator of numerous clinical trials, primarily in the field of Alzheimer’s disease, and has authored numerous manuscripts and chapters.

He has been active in leadership, previously served as regional physician president of the Baptist Health Medical Group in Kentucky before joining NNI in 2021 to head the adult neurology program and form the memory center. Within the AAN he has participated in the Transforming Leaders Program, the Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum as both advocate and advisor, and served on the AAN’s Leadership Development Committee, NeuroReady program, Health Equity Strategic Planning Work Group and attended Neurology on the Hill.

He is on the editorial board for the Physician Leadership Journal and is a Fellow of both the AAN and AAPL.
