Michael E. Markowski, DO, FAAN, is a general neurologist serving the Cape Cod, MA, community for 20 years, currently practicing at Spaulding Cape Cod Rehabilitation Hospital within the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Neurology.  Prior to transitioning to Spaulding Cape Cod Hospital in 2023, he was Neurology Division Chief for Cape Cod Healthcare, where he served on the Cape Cod Hospital Medical Executive Committee and as Stroke Director. Markowski began his career in 2006 as a solo neurologist within a multispecialty group in Hyannis, MA.

Markowski has been engaged with the AAN in various roles including vice chair of the AAN’s Advocacy Committee along with serving on the Member Engagement Committee and Quality Measures Subcommittee. He participated on the AAN’s Neurology Workforce Shortage and Solo and Small Practice task forces.  He was chair of the AAN’s General Neurology Task Force in 2020 and remains engaged in the AAN’s efforts to expand the general neurology workforce, also a personal focus. Markowski represented the AAN on the European Academy of Neurology’s General Neurology Task Force and served as chair of the AAN’s General Neurology Section. In addition, Markowski has been a perennial advocate representing Massachusetts at Neurology on the Hill and work group author for the AAN’s Neurology Compensation and Productivity Report. He participated in the Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum and Practice Leadership Program and subsequently contributed as moderator and mentor within these AAN Leadership Programs. 

Markowski attended the College of the Holy Cross and the University of New England Osteopathic Medical School, after which he completed his neurology residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, followed by an EMG/Neuromuscular Fellowship at Tufts Medical Center. When not working in his comprehensive neurology clinic or volunteering at the AAN, Markowski can be found traveling with his family, hiking with his dog, or on the pickleball court.
