Participants should be able to recognize the clinical features of paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) of the CNS and describe their associations with cancer and the presence of neuronal antibodies that target intracellular or cell-surface neuronal antigens. The course will provide an overview of the recent diagnostic criteria for PNS, highlighting advances in the field, as well as discussing persisting limitations and key points to consider in their application. This course will also cover the importance of characterizing the specific location of the target antigens that has implications for diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Lastly, it will show how neuropathological studies are increasing our understanding of the physiopathology of these diseases and can guide the design of treatment strategies.
