What is the AAN’s Neurology Compensation and Productivity Survey?

March 26, 2025

About one month remains to complete the AAN’s 2025 Neurology Compensation and Productivity Survey. With more than 4,900 neurologists and neurology professionals participating last time, this survey creates the largest source of neurology compensation data of its kind—available for free to participants.

“This data tells our story, as a profession,” said Jose Rocha, DHA, director of the central business office of FirstChoice Neurology. “It helps us validate what is great with our practice and helps us also understand where we as a practice can improve. It gives a benchmark and understanding of these benchmarks can only help鈥痑 practice become more marketable and desirable regardless of the size of the practice.”

Members who complete the survey by the April 24 deadline unlock free access to the full data dashboard, allowing them to explore insights on salary, practice, and more. The next chance to participate in the survey won’t be until 2027. For members who do not complete the survey, dashboard access will be available for $500.

The survey is useful for neurologists of any practice type, business administrators, and other neurology professionals like advanced practice providers. Using the data dashboard, survey participants can:

  • Determine fair market value by benchmarking compensation and productivity
  • Filter data by subspecialty, geographic region, gender, and more
  • Gauge demand for neurology services using total patient encounters and appointment wait times
  • Find new opportunities for their practice or department by reviewing ancillary services
  • Discover other trends for on-call rates and duties, practice performance and size, and much more

The AAN is committed to protecting survey participants’ data. Your data is kept confidential and secure, and only aggregate, de-identified data is reported.

Complete the survey online by April 24, 2025. Participants can skip questions that aren’t relevant to them and save their progress to return and finish later. To participate, you must be a current AAN member who is a US neurologist, advanced practice provider, or business manager/administrator.

“As an academic chair, my goal is to ensure equitable salaries and workloads for all newly appointed faculty members,” said Brett Kissela, MD, MS, FAAN, who chairs the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. “The NCP Survey is exceedingly beneficial, offering detailed and specific information that encompasses various neurology subspecialties by rank and region. The data on workload and productivity is invaluable for discussions with our local administrators."
