“The AAN’s practice guidelines help neurologists and other health care providers make decisions on the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disease,” said  Alexander D. Rae-Grant, MD, FAAN, the chair of the subcommittee. “This nominations process allows us to identify areas in which new guidelines would be beneficial—and we especially welcome proposals that will be useful for general neurologists.”

. Before submitting your proposal, view the list of questions on the topic nomination form, check the list of guidelines under development, and gather the necessary information. The form asks submitters to provide information on why guidance on this topic is important for neurologic practice, references to published studies on the topic, and how the proposed guideline would improve patient outcomes. People submitting a nomination are also encouraged to ask for feedback from AAN sections, which are exclusive online communities of AAN members who share a subspecialty or area of interest.

With the exception of employees and representatives of for-profit medical industry companies, anyone may submit a topic for consideration. You do not need to be an AAN member to submit a topic.

Contact the Guidelines Subcommittee with questions or for assistance completing the topic nomination form.
