Gold-Carding Program benefits

Gold Carding

Gold Carding is a method of relaxing or waiving requirements for services that are traditionally governed by prior authorization (PA) criteria to provide a more streamlined process for providers who have a demonstrated track record for complying with PA requirements.

The AAN has convened a workgroup of payer and care delivery experts that are proactively working to address prior authorization burdens by investigating gold carding, and alternative models, resources, frameworks, and potential partnerships.

The AAN conducted a survey in 2024 to understand members' obstacles with Prior Authorization and gold carding solutions. This information has been invaluable to gain an understanding of prior authorization burden in neurology practices and the current adaption, or lack of, of
